A local resident from Omanthai has launched a fast-unto-death next to the old check-point in Omanthai, requesting to establish an economic center in Omanthai.

The economic centre is to be established in Puliyankulam, Vavuniya originally.

Omanthai is a more suitable place for an economic center and it will greatly help to rebuild the economy of the resettled community, says T. Maheshwaran (73) while continuing his hunger strike. More people from Omanthai have joined the hunger strike since showing their support.

Chief Minister of the Northern Province, C. V. Wigneswaran gave a call to Maheswaran, asking to drop the hunger strike yesterday. Nonetheless, Maheshwaran stated that he will not stop until a proper solution is presented.

He is continuing the hunger strike today.
