Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Faizer Mustafa, on the Advice of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, have initiated a program to remove all unauthorized hawkers and Bill boards and carts selling goods by September 15.

Police said that some people get permission to sell lottery tickets or newspapers but not to sell other things.

Changing the venues of the mobile vehicles, adding parts to mobile vehicles has resulted in pedestrians experiencing difficulty in walking on the pavement .

The mobile vehicles which were given for people to start self employment projects have been given on rent. In addition the Police has received complaints where the entrance of the shops are blocked and in some cases there is no space to park the vehicles of shop owners.

This has resulted in the pavement becoming a dangerous place while there have been instances of pedestrians getting injured too.
