Kithsiri Ranawaka Remanded For Alleged Financial Fraud Of Rs 5.7 Million

Former Director of Tourism Promotion Authority Kithsiri Ranawaka was remanded yesterday by Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne till September 6 over alleged misuse of Rs 5.7 million.

FCID arrested him and produced before court.

It is alleged that he had, in his capacity as a director of the Authority, approved the release of the money which was to be used for a tourism awareness campaign. However, the money was allegedly used for providing refreshents during the Uva Provincial Election.

The other members of the director board are also being sought by police over the incident.

Ranawaka is also involved in several cases of misuse of funds of the Divi Neguma Department.
