Without taking necessary steps to carry out repairs, the authorities have closed down the damaged pedestrian lanes of the 50 year old Thoppuwa Bridge which runs along the Colombo - Chilaw road over the Ma Oya.

Hence pedestrians are taking the bridge causing a huge traffic as it’s a narrow bridge with two lanes, says the local police.

The bridge in Colombo – Chillaw road and divides Gampaha and Puttalam districts. Locals say that authorities should consider the issue soon as possible as it is an immense inconvenience. They further point out that consideration should be given to widen the bride or building a new one.
