Army Begins Anniversary Celebrations With Religious Observances

Sri Lanka Army will be celebrating its 67th anniversary on October 10th. As the first step, a flag blessing ceremony was conducted at the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth Relic), Kandy in this regard yesterday (28). Series of events are arranged leading to the main ceremony on October 10th.

According to army media sources, a 'Buddha Pooja' and an offering of 'Ata Pirikara' to 67 members of the Maha Sangha, 'Pirith' chanting and invoking blessings on all army flags held in Kandy signifying the beginning of the anniversary celebrations.

In addition,  the flag blessing ceremony at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi precincts in the sacred city of Anuradhapura is to be held on Friday (30th September) with the participation of Commander of the Army.

The Islamic prayer ceremony organized by the Muslim Association of the Army will be conducted at the Jummah Masjidh in Colombo 3 on October 04th while the Army Hindu Association will hold its ceremony at the Sri Ponnambalam Vaneshwar Kovil in Colombo 13, the following day (05th October). A special mass will be held at the All Saints Church in Borella on October 06th by the Army Christian Association.

Special religious observances will also be held at Kataragama and Panagoda Army Cantonment.
