Sirisena Lashes Out At Bribery Commission For Taking Former Navy Commanders To Court (VIDEO)

In an unprecedented move, President Maithripala Sirisena lashed out at the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption for taking three former navy commanders to court.

The former navy commanders are among eight who have been charged over corruption at Avant Garde Maritime Services company. Former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa is also charged in this case.

Speaking at an event this morning at Sri Lanka Foundation, Sirisena said that he is disgusted at taking three former navy commanders to court. If there is a problem regarding the deals between the Avant Garde company and the Defence Ministry, the ministry could have taken necessary steps in this, he added.

Sirisena also said that the treatment meted out at intelligence officers in the Pradeep Eknaligoda case is not acceptable. The process have to be expedited in their regard, he added.

There was a reason, he said, for the establishment of independent commissions. If they, and the CID and FCID act with political motives, stern action will have to taken, Sirisena said.
