Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam today said that the foundation stone for the Volkswagen plant in Kuliyapitiya will be laid in December this year.

Kariyawasam made this observation today at the laying of the foundation stone for the new Faculty of Medicine at the Wayamba University. This faculty is at Labuyaya, Kuliyapitiya.

It is known that a land has already been allocated for the Volkswagen plant.

The opening of the plant was a promise made by Kariyawasam during the last general election. Kuliyapitiya is his home electorate.
