CBK To Re-enter Politics With A "Ten-point" Policy Framework

Deshaya newspaper, owned by Wijeya newspapers group, today reported that former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga is to re-enter active politics with a policy framework that includes ten main points.

The former President, according to the newspaper, will announce her decision in the near future.

It is still not clear whether she wants to become a candidate at the next Presidential election. It was in the grapevine that Kumaratunga had discussed the matter with several key politicians representing both parties.

As the newspaper reports the former President has discussed about her policy framework with several key cabinet ministers who are dissatisfied with the present administration. The report also says that several foreign diplomatic missions operating in Colombo have also extended their support to the former President.

However, the United National Party has already announced that Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe would be its candidate at the next Presidential election. Therefore, chances are thin for the former President to re-enter politics from the United National Party.

Political sources say she still stands a chance of becoming the third candidate at the Presidential election with the support of several opposition political parties.
