Thirukumaran Nadesan, who was arrested by the FCID earlier today, was granted bail by the Pugoda Magistrate over the controversial land in Malwana.

He was released on a cash bail of Rs 50,000 and two sureties of Rs 1 million each.

Nadesan, a former Chairman of Hilton Colombo, is married to Nirupama Rajapaksa, a nice of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The land in question was alleged to be owned by former Minister Basil Rajapaksa. However he informed court that it is not owned by him.

The land was to be auctioned as per the court orders when Nadesan came forward. It is said that Nadesan is the owner of the land. However FCID said that they will file a case against him since it was not clear as to how he obtained the money for the purchase of the land.
