Update: President Accepts Resignation Of Bribery Commission DG

The Presidential Secretariat has accepted the resignation of the Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, political sources said.

Accordingly, President Maithripala Sirisena has ordered the Presidential Secretary to accept the resignation.

Bribery Commission DG Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe sent her resignation earlier in the day.

It is thought that the recent controversial statement made by the President on taking three former navy commanders to court may have prompted Wickramasinghe to take this decision.

The Bribery Commission filed a case against eight individuals including three former navy commanders over the alleged corruption in deals with the Avant Garde company.

President Sirisena implied that the commission was acting on a political agenda.
