Raviraj Murder Case: Date Fixed For Decision On Jury

The decision on whether to allow a jury in the Nadaraja Raviraj murder trial was fixed to October 27 by Colombo High Court Judge Manilal Waidyathilake.

Three of the six accused for the murder of former TNA MP Nadarajah Raviraj requested a trial by jury in early September.

The three accused include two navy personnel and a policeman. The three others, all former members of the LTTE Karuna faction are absconding court.

There was a delay in announcing a decision since the three have been charged under both the Prevention of Terrorism Act and the Penal Code.

According to the PTA a jury cannot be allowed but according to the Criminal Code the defendants can ask for a jury.

The aggrieved party is opposed to allowing for a trial by jury.
