Sri Lanka To Propose International Information Unit Against Narcotics

The Secretary to the Minister of Law & Order and Prison Reforms, Jagath P. Wijeweera says that Sri Lanka proposes to establish an international information unit to overcome the drug menace. The proposal will be presented to the 40th summit of the heads of national institution against narcotics in the countries of Asian and Pacific regions. The summit will begin on Monday and continue till 27th of this month. Over 110 officials representing 65 countries will take part in this summit. At a press briefing held in Colombo today, the secretary Jagath P. Wijeweera said this summit will focus special attention on drug menace and abuse of pharmaceuticals. Sri Lanka has already established a special information unit to coordinate all institutions that worked to control use and smuggling of narcotics. 

Meanwhile, Indian ocean regional countries National Defence Ministers' Summit will be held in Colombo on the 29th of this month. Ministers and officials regarding the control of drugs smuggling from 22 countries will take part in this event. President Maithripala Sirisena will be the chief guest.
