Police made an arrest in the death of a Sub-Inspector who was shot during a search of a suspicious vehicle in Kurunegala last night.

Dasanayake Ratna Banda, a 59-year-old policeman, and two other policemen were shot at by a suspect near a hotel in Maspotha on Puttalam – Kurunegala road at around 10.00 pm last night.

The three policemen including the SI, a Sergeant and a Constable arrived to inspect a suspected vehicle after a 119 emergency call.

The wounded officials were hospitalized in Kurunegala.

The suspects had abandoned the car and fled soon after the shooting.

The police believe that the suspects had forged number plates in the car.
