November 17, 2016

Iran's Ambassador to Sri Lanka Mohammad Zaeri Amirani in a meeting with Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils Faiszer Musthapha in Colombo on Wednesday reviewed bolstering bilateral relations.

Amirani also conferred with President Maithripala Sirisena on issues of mutual interests last week.

President Sirisena is to visit Tehran late January 2017.

This is the first visit of President Sirisena to Iran since he took office in January 2015.

Iran and Sri Lanka presidents held a meeting in Bangkok recently.

The two countries are interested in cooperation for development projects including dam construction, channelling water, hydro-electric power plant, engineering and technical services.
