November 17, 2016

The government states it will not be protecting motorists who fail to adhere to road regulations.

Co-Cabinet Spokesman Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka said a number of deaths are reported daily due to the lack of discipline of motorists.

Minister Karunathilake said the fine will be imposed on persons driving under the influence, those driving without a valid permit and other offences adding that it’s imposed against persons who break the law.

Around 7-8 persons are killed in road accidents daily thus all individuals must be safe on the roads adding that no one wants an innocent life taken because of the actions of a drunk driver or a motorist driving without a license.

Minister stated that this is being implemented as a law adding that nothing need be said on behalf of motorists who break the law.

He commented on the provision of vehicles for Parliamentarians engaged in development initiatives.

Minister Karunathilaka also said the matter is still under discussion.
