Former US Ambassador Jaliya Wickramasuriya To Be Produced Before Court Today

Former Sri Lankan Ambassador to the US, Jaliya Wickramasuriya was arrested by Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) yesterday.

He was arrested for allegedly accepting a USD 245,000 commission while serving as the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the US, under the previous government.

FCID prevented Wickramasuriya from leaving the country on Wednesday. Police sources said the former Ambassador would be produced before court today.

Cousin of former President Rajapaksa, Mr. Wickramasuriya, has been gravely cautioned over the financial misconduct allegations against him.

He has been ordered to pay back over Rs. 45 million which he had exploited through financial misappropriations before.
