'Duplicate Bandu' Defends Himself In Court

November 21, 2016

Bindu Bothalegama, the so-called 'Duplicate Bandu' today told Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya that he was not imitating popular actor Bandu Samarasinghe and he was born with features resembling him.

The lawyers made this argument when the magisterial inquiry on the imitation of Bandu Samarasinghe was taken up before court.

Samarasinghe complained to the Colombo Crimes Division in mid-2015 over the alleged violation of Intellectual Property according to the Intellectual Property Act No 36 of 2003.

However, Bindu Bothalegama's lawyers argued that imitating another person does not fall under intellectual property violations.

Samarasinghe's lawyers countered, saying that their client's economic rights have been violated by Bothalegama.

The Magistrate fixed the inquiry to February 14, 2017, and issued notice to four directors of films in which Bothalegama acted to appear in court on that day.
