Prof. Sanath Nandasiri Appointed As New Chancellor Of University Of Visual & Performing Arts

Professor Sangeeth Nipun Sanath Nandasiri has been appointed as the chancellor of University of the Visual & Performing Arts (UVPA). 

Late Maestro of Sri Lanka Music Pandit W.D. Amaradeva was the former chancellor.

University of the Visual & Performing Arts is the only university in Sri Lanka to exclusively offer special degree programmes in the Visual & Performing Arts.

Professor Nandasiri has studied tabla under D.R. Peiris. Professor has studies at prestigious Bhatkhande Music Institute. 

After he returned to Sri Lanka in 1974, joined the staff of University of Kelaniya as a lecturer. 

He served as the head of music at the university from 1988 to 1992.

Professor Nandasiri took the Part I examination in vocal music and obtained first class at the "Nipun" examination in 1992 becoming the first Sri Lankan to achieve this task. 

He served as Dean of the Music Faculty at the University of the Visual Arts and Performing Arts before the new appointment.
