Sirisena Still Blind To ISIS Threat, As Seen By Senaratne's Claim

November 24, 2016

The government still remains blind to the threat posed by the ISIS in the region, as seen by Dr. Rajitha Senaratne's claim that the Justice Minister's recent report on Sri Lankan ISIS members was wrong.

Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa recently said that there were 32 Sri Lankans from 4 families who had joined with the ISIS.

However, Senaratne yesterday claimed that no such report has been received by the government.

More seriously, he said that the President instructed him to inform the media the the President and the National Security Council would confirm that no such report has been received by the government.

The ISIS published a several-page article on the first Sri Lankan to die for the ISIS in Syria in their propaganda magazine 'Amaq' in late 2015. In this article, they said that 16 other Sri Lankans had joined the ISIS.

The government continues to deny these claims.
