Private Bus Owners To Launch Island-wide Strike On First Of December

All Island Private Bus Owners Federation has announced that it will launch an island-wide strike action from the 1st of December. 

The strike action is against the proposal to increase the minimum fine for traffic offences through the 2017 Budget.

The Ministry of Finance recently announced that the minimum fine for seven traffic offences will be increased to 25,000 rupees through the 2017 Budget.

The Ministry announced that the decision was taken following discussion with the Ministry of Transport, representatives of several transport trade unions and with police officers.

Though, General Secretary Anjana Priyanjith said the All Island Private Bus Owners Federation did not consent to the increase.
