Police Offered New Health Insurance Scheme

November 25, 2016

The Government is paying attention to introduce a health Insurance scheme to the Police officers, said Law, Order, and Southern Development Minister Sagala Ratnayaka when he visited the Police Hospital in Narahenpita yesterday(24 Nov.)  He also toured the hospital and also checked on the new building which is constructed to house 84 patients.

Minister also exchanged views with the relatives of police officers who are warded and also families of officers who had come to take treatment from the OPD.

He said that it is important to develop the police hospital in a systematic manner to be a world class hospital. The patients who come to the hospital should be provided a quality service and the staff should provide that service.  The government will provide the required money but it should be managed properly. There are over 84,000 officers and they and six members in a family can get OPD treatment from the hospital. In addition Police officers can obtain treatment from the hospitals in Kundasale and Kankasanturai.

Since this hospital is in Colombo people with sicknesses find it difficult to come this far but the other two hospitals don’t provide the services offered by the Police Hospital in Narahenpita. Therefore it is essential to provide a quality health service to the Police officers and the government will take all steps in this regard. We will consider alternatives too to provide a quality health service to the Police officers.

The Navy has an insurance scheme and it provides Rs 1.5 million which can be used to obtain treatment here or abroad. Minister said that the police officers face many difficulties among them are drinking water problems for officers on duty in the North and the East not having meals at the proper time due to work.

Minister Ratnayaka assured that he will take all steps to provide a quality health service to the Police officers.
