Registration Of Tea Cultivation Lands Commenced Today

December 02, 2016

Minister Naveen Dissanayake informs that the tea board has initiated necessary steps to register tea cultivation lands from tomorrow.

Lack of necessary information is an impediment on the actions taken by the government to improve tea industry. To provide a remedy to this shortcoming, the government plans to collect and maintain details on many aspects of tea lands including ownership, maintenance of cultivation, types of tea cultivated, productivity and harvest.

The minister revealed these details at a press briefing held at Colombo today. According to the plan each and every tea small holder will be provided identification after submitting a completed application form. The government plans to maintain a tea cultivation land register at every Grama Niladari office. The register will be updated periodically with the transfers of land ownership and changes in cultivation.
