Travel Ban On Gotabaya Rajapaksa Over Avant-Garde Case Lifted

The travel bans imposed on seven individuals including ncluding former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Avant-Garde Maritime Services Chairman Nissanka Senadhipathi and three former navy commanders was lifted today by the Colombo Chief Magistrate.

The Bribery Commission has filed a case against Rajapaksa and seven others on the allegation of causing a loss to the government by helping the company earn Rs 11.4 billion through granting permission to operate a floating armory. They are charged for corruption under the Bribery Act.

The lawyers of seven suspects who are present in court made the request today. The AG did not oppose the request.
