Gemunu Wijesuriya Discredited As Bus Workers Strike

December 02, 2016

Despite the claims that the Lanka Private Bus Owners Association Chairman Gemunu Wijesuriya that his association will not strike today, most roads were empty of private buses.

Wijesuriya had claimed yesterday that they came to an agreement with President Maithripala Sirisena and that his association will not strike.

Wijesuriya, a former general election candidate of the UNP, has a good relationship with the present government. He is known as a key figure who campaigned to elect Sirisena as President in January 2015 Presidential Election.

However, he has been unable to stop the bus strike from taking place. Today he attempted to explain the bus strike, putting the blame on the workers, who had gone on strike irrespective of his claims.
