December 05, 2016

Speaking in the Parliament today, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya stated that it is not justifiable to blame the police regarding the incident occurred near the parliamentary roundabout on Saturday. However, the Speaker said the police have informed him that the group had act violating the public law and order and the court order.

It is the responsibility of the police to provide security to the parliament. The police had told parliamentarian Bandula Gunawardena that only 5 persons can be allowed to meet the MPs and a large number of persons are not permitted to enter the parliamentary complex on one instance. The Speaker stated this in response to the query made by Parliamentarian Dinesh Gunawardena at the Parliament.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe who also spoke at the parliament recalled how media had reported quoting the protesters that they will invade the parliament. It is certainly a threat leveled against the parliament. Therefore the police had to take necessary action against it.
