TNA Should Be Banned For Ties To LTTE, Says Gammanpila

December 05, 2016

The Tamil National Alliance should be banned since it had direct ties to the LTTE, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya General Secretary Udaya Gammanpila.

Speaking to the media at a press conference today, he said that the TNA acted as the political wing of the LTTE while it was active.

This has been confirmed by the European election observers as well, Gammanpila said.

The LTTE supported the TNA by assassinating other Tamil leaders in the north, Gammanpila said. Therefore, he said that other parties in the north has no chance against the TNA to compete in an election in a level field.

In this context, it is laughable to hear President Maithripala Sirisena commending R. Sampanthan as the best ever opposition leader in Sri Lankan history, Gammanpila added. Perhaps, he is the best opposition leader for the government since Sampanthan voted for the government in its budget votes with no amendments, Gammanpila also said.
