December 05, 2016

Fifteen witnesses including President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe were issued summons to appear before Colombo High Court for the trial against Tissa Attanayake scheduled to be taken up for the next hearing on March 20.

Tissa Attanayake was the UNP Secretary General before he defected to the UPFA in December 2014 during the 2015 January Presidential Election campaign.

He displayed a document to the media which allegedly displayed an agreement between the then common candidate of the opposition Maithripala Sirisena and the then Leader of the Opposition Ranil Wickremesinghe.

He has been charged over preparing a fraudulent document and inciting communal hatred.
