December 10, 2016

Sugar importers have decided to halt importing sugar from Brazil in view of the practice of smuggling cocaine in sugar containers.

The sugar importers say that this practice is a relatively novel smuggling technique used by drug smugglers.

Several stocks of cocaine were discovered inside containers which had Brazilian sugar in the recent months. The first such haul was discovered in June. A 200kg stock was recently discovered by the Customs.
