Ten Districts At High Dengue Risk

The Health Ministry says a The Health Ministry says a dengue epidemic is reported from 10 districts at present. They are Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Galle, Ratnapura, Kurunegala, Puttlam, Batticaloa, Ampara and Jaffna. The Ministry has decided to conduct Mosquito eliminating programmes from tomorrow. This decision has been taken at a meeting held yesterday at the Ministry of Health under the patronage of Minister Dr. Rajita Senaratna. 

The three armed forces, Police and Civil Defense corp will take part in this programme. Leave of the Health workers of 30 MOH divisions in these districts have been cancelled and it is compulsory for them to take part in these programmes.

In addition, the Principals will be instructed to keep the school premises free of mosquito breeding places. The Minister has instructed to provide a sum of 40 million rupees to the National Dengue Control Unit without delay. About 77 deaths have been reported from the dengue menance during this year.
