Good Governance Government Is Committed To Ensure Media Freedom: Deputy Minister of Mass Media

Deputy Minister of Mass Media Karunaratne Paranavithana emphasizes the present good governance government is committed to ensure media freedom to the fullest and to safeguard it. The government has a clear vision regarding media. Taking part in a radio programme, he pointed out media has a responsibility of creating a dialogue on rights and duties of citizens.

The media is allowed to criticize politicians. In return the politicians should have the opportunity to criticize media. But, the politicians do not have any right to crackdown media. The deputy stated certain parties are attempting to create a wrong picture by stating that a crackdown media is taking place at present. While emphasizing that the freedom and democracy will be safeguarded the deputy minister said that no one can be allowed to interrupt the government's activities.
