Group of journalists staged a protest on today against navy commander, after he was caught on camera allegedly assaulting a local journalist last week.

The Navy Commander has denied the assault and government said it would launch an investigation over the incident.

Ranga Kalansooriya, Government Information Department Director General  earlier in the week said the journalist, had violated basic ethical practices when covering sensitive conflict situations.

In a statement issued by him it was stated that the government has initiated an inquiry into the alleged assault on the journalist on Saturday.
