Deputy Minister Eran Wickremeratne today denied any knowledge of a so-called 'super minister' to be created.

He made this observation at a press conference in Sirikotha UNP Headquarters. He said that the 'fabricated story of the Super Minister' was the work of people who have nothing else to do.

The Joint Opposition and the JVP is opposing the Development (Special Provisions) Bill, saying that if it is enacted, it will create a Super Minister.

He or she would be able to take decisive decisions regarding the economy of the country, thereby manipulating authorities and departments, even bypassing subject ministers. No one will be able to take action against him or her as this post will be vested with legal immunity, Prof. GL Peiris said recently.

Peiris argued that even the President's authority can be reduced by the Super Minister.
