December 17, 2016

The Yang di- Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V, received a courtesy call from the President of Sri Lanka, Maithripala Sirisena at Istana Negara, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.

Sirisena's arrival at the national palace was greeted by Sultan Muhammad V, who was accompanied by Foreign Ministry deputy secretary-general, Datuk Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob.

The courtesy call by a foreign leader was the first since Sultan Muhammad V ascended the throne on Tuesday, replacing Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, who completed his term as the 14th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Monday.

The Sri Lankan president, who arrived in Malaysia on Thursday, is on a three-day maiden visit to Malaysia since taking office in January 2015.

The visit will give new impetus to bilateral cooperation and will bring relations between Malaysia and Sri Lanka to a higher level.
