Breakaway Group To Leave Government To Represent "Good Governance"

December 21, 2016

A new organization is to be formed by some youth activists who campaigned for good governance in an attempt to steer the government in the correct path, political sources said.

These activists aim to raise awareness as to what the government of Maithripala Sirisena should do to realize the original goals of good governance.

They are disturbed by the direction the government has taken during the past two years and say that the action of the whole government reflects badly on the President. The members of the new organization are confidant that the President can deliver the goals of "good governance", political sources said.

The government should at least carry out the basic reforms the Maithripala Sirisena campaign promised during the presidential election campaign, they have said.

Some of these young activists are holding responsible positions within the government. They are to resign from their posts and form this new organization in the near future.
