No Proper Answers Yet: Salawa Issue At SLHRC Today

The government has failed to figure-out proper solutions for the Salawa issue yet, says victims of the army cam exposition victims. 

Collective of the Victims of Salawa Armory Explosion’s Secretary Chandana Sooriyarachchi states that the government has failed to provide suitable soultions to their issues even after six months of the armory explosion.

Complaint lodged at the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission, by a group affected by the explosion Salawa army camp, will be taken up today.

A major fire broke out at the ammunition dump of the Sri Lanka Army Camp at Salawa, Kosgama back in June.  

Military expert, Retired Major General Mano Perera, at the time said that army is in the process of shifting ammunition to safer areas  – which requires a very large area. Residential areas anyway carry obvious danger regarding storing explosives.

Army has allocated a valuable 500 m stretch of land along the Colombo - Awissawella main road for the construction of 35 new shop in place of the shops affected by the Salawa ammo dump fire earlier this month.
