Amaya Lake "Blends" Eco-Tourism With Fireworks: Environmentalists Express Shock

December 29, 2016

Environmental activists have started to express their disbelief at the 31st night party organized by the Amaya Lake in Kandalama.

The hotel invites guests to enjoy the 31st night and "watch the fireworks go by the lake".

However, environmentalists say that the lake is frequented by the wild elephants who inhabit the national parks and other forests across a large area. The Kandalama lake has become an important source of water for the wild animals since some water sources have dried up due to the dry weather.

It is unclear as to how this practice of fireworks by the lake is compatible with eco-tourism which the hotel prides itself in.
