Amaya Lake Denies President's Office Intervened To Stop Fireworks

December 30, 2016

Personal interventon by President's Office stopped Amaya Lake in Kandalama from carrying out the 31st night fireworks display near the lake, sources from the President's Office told Asian Mirror.

However, the hotel denied that there was any such intervention by the President or his office. A spokesperson told Asian Mirror that there were no plans for fireworks and therefore there was no need for the intervention of the president.

Asian Mirror carried out a story on the planned fireworks yesterday. The hotel later responded saying that the original advertisement has been a misunderstanding (despite clearly mentioning there will be fireworks and having a picture of fireworks in the advertisement) and no fireworks will be displayed.

However, sources in the President's Office said that there were fireworks planned at the hotel for the 31st night, and they had been forced to abandon it after the intervention of the President.

The Mahaweli Authority has also warned that they will be forced to take legal action if the hotel carries out such a fireworks display by the lake and the Central Environmental Authority has also warned against such action.
