Sarath Weerasekera To Geneva To Complain About Zeid Al Hussein

Former Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera is to submit a petition against United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Al Hussein for ‘interfering in Sri Lanka’s sovereign affairs.’

Addressing the press yesterday the former Rear Admiral said he would hand over the petition to President of the United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) Joaquín Martelli.

“The President of the United Nations Human Rights Commissioner is higher than the High Commissioner for Human Rights,” he said.

He said they would complain about Zeid Al Hussein ‘meddling’ and ‘interfering’ in sovereign affairs by calling for a hybrid court.

Furthermore, the former Rear Admiral said, action should be taken against the people in Consultative Task Force for Reconciliation Mechanisms.

“These people have also said they have no faith in our judiciary and have called for a hybrid court. They should be arrested,” he said.

The delegation led by Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera is to leave for Geneva on Wednesday, to attend the 35th session of the United Nations Human Rights Commission.
