Gnanasara Thera Files Fundamental Rights Petition Seeking To Prevent Arrest

Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera has filed a Fundamental Rights petition through his lawyers at the Supreme Court, seeking an interim order to prevent his arrest.

The de facto BBS leader is currently in hiding after four police teams were appointed to arrest him for inciting communal disharmony and violence, in the aftermath of several attacks on Muslim establishments and places of worship.

Gnanasara Thera is also wanted before the Court of Appeal where he is summoned on charges of Contempt of Court relating to incident on January 25, where he addressed the court during a hearing into the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda.
