PUCL Alleges Sri Lankan Spies Are Tracking War Refugees In Chennai

People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) on Friday alleged that Sri Lankan defence personnel in plain clothes were in Chennai tracking Tamil refugees who had fled to India during the war.

The PUCL has made this statement while condemning the Indian Prime Ministers decision to deny visas to the UN panel on war crimes in Sri Lanka.

The organization alleged that Sri Lankan defence personnel were patrolling the streets of Chennai disguised in casual attire are seeking out Tamil war refugees who have seek sanctuary in Chennai.

They said that they have noted a few cases in which rescued refugees from the Sri Lankan security personnel.

"We don’t know whether they are here with the support of the Indian government,” said V Suresh, PUCL national general secretary.

They also said that by denying the UN war crime investigation panel "the justice which should be brought to the Tamils in Sri Lanka has been neglected."

When the issue of the UN panel on war crimes was brought into discussion, the awkward silence from New Delhi suggested that the Narendra Modi Government has declined the request.
