EU Ambassador Margue Condemns Act Of Violence Against Christians

European Union (EU) Ambassador to Sri Lanka Tung Lai Margue, at a meeting with the National Christian Evangelical Alliance (NCEA), strongly condemned continued acts of violence against Christians and pledged EU support.

The NCEA have documented over 195 attacks against Christian placed of worship since the current administration took over on January 8, 2015. These figures were quoted by human rights defender lawyer Lakshan Dias on a television programme recently.

When questioned, Justice and Buddhasasana Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapaksha rejected the claims however, quoting in his defense figures quoted by the Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith which were significantly fewer.
