The Supreme Court order preventing the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) from dumping garbage at Muthurajawela sanitary landfill was extended till July 25, this morning.

The Supreme Court on July 5 issued an interim injunction order preventing the CMC from dumping garbage at Muthurajawela till July 20.

The order was made after residents filed a petition alleging that Muthurajawela sanctuary ought to be protected under the Flora and Fauna Act.

The petitioners cited the CMC, the CMC Municipal Commissioner, the Urban Development Authority (UDA), the Central Environment Authority (CEA), the Wattala Pradeshiya Sabha and six other parties as respondents.
