No-Confidence Motion Against Ravi Karunanyake Will Not Be Taken Up For Debate As He Has Resigned: Speaker Informs Parliament

The no-confidence motion brought against former Foreign Affairs Minister Ravi Karunanyake will not be taken up for debate as he has resigned, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya informed Parliament today.

The Speaker on Tuesday (8) promised that he would inform the Parliament on when the no-confidence motion against the former Foreign Affairs Minister would be taken up for debate today (10).

Former Foreign Affairs Minister Ravi Karunanayake tendered his resignation in public this afternoon following allegation that the lease on an upscale Monarch Residencies apartment was paid for by Arjun Aloysius.

Aloysius is a prime suspect in the Treasury bond issue that is currently being investigated by the a three-member Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena on January 27.
