Wasantha Siriwardhane, Principal of Mahinda College, Galle, has been removed from office with immediate effect, following a series of allegations on financial misappropriations
Speaking to Asian Mirror, a spokesman from the Ministry of Education said it took the decision to remove the Principal from office following a thorough investigation. He added that the misappropriations were largely based on Grade 01 admissions.
"Even when the inquiry was pending," the spokesman said, "the Principal had proceeded with grade 01 admissions in a questionable manner." He also added that the investigation was conducted by an independent panel who looked into the every aspect of the problem.
It was also also known that the Old Boys Association of the school and the Principal of the school were at loggerheads over grade 01 admissions and the latter's involvement in the matter.
The inquiry which led to the removal of the Principal was started following a complaint lodged by the Old Boys Association of the school with the Ministry of Education.
The Association had also requested the Ministry of Education to investigate into the assets of the Principal.
