September 11, 2017

UNP Parliamentarian and Former Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake held a meeting with Alle Gunanawansa Thera who is entangled in a verbal battle with Minister Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka.

The meeting was held at Gunawansa Thera's Colombo 07 temple, on Saturday.

During the meeting, Karunanayake, an Assistant Leader of the UNP. had told the Buddist monk that his party had nothing to do with Fonseka's statement.

Gunawansa Thera, a monk famous for his strong political connections, recently criticized Fonseka for his statement on war crimes allegations against former Army Commander Jagath Jayasuriya.

Gunawansa Thera said Fonseka had betrayed the victory of war when he spoke about alleged crimes committed under jayasuriya's watch.

Fonseka responded to the Buddhist monk's statement saying the latter was a "robed man with an unsound mind."
