Joint Opposition Meets BASL: Seeks Support To Pressurise Government To Hold Elections Without Delay

September 20, 2017

A delegation of Joint Opposition MPs met with representatives of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) to talk about delays in holding elections.

The Joint Opposition sought the support of the BASL to exert pressure on the government to hold the  Provincial Council elections as early as possible.

They said there was a move to delay elections, citing electoral reforms.

Professor G.L. Peiris, Parliamentarians Namal Rajapaksa, C.B Ratnaike and several others represented the JO at the meeting.

The BASL representatives were led by its President U. R. de Silva and Ali Sabry. Both de Silva and Ali Sabry have represented key figures of the previous administrations in some high-profile cases in the recent past.
