A group of cabinet ministers are now exploring the possibility of forming a common front against the Bodu Bala Sena organization and its General Secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera.
The Ministers had discussed the possibility of forming a group in the wake of the scating attack launched by Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera against Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senaratna.
Previously, the BBS General Secretary strongly criticized several senior cabinet ministers such as Vasudewa Nanayakkara, Dilan Perera, Rauff Hakeem. Rishad Bathiudeen and S.B. Dissanayake. The Ministers are now of the view that there should be a unified effort against what they term as the "rabid" behaviour of the Bodu Bala Sena.
Meanwhile,at a recent meeting,Thibbatuwawe Sumangala Thera, the Mahanayake of the Malwatte chapter, had asked Gnanasara Thera to avoid fights with ministers of the government and resolve issues amicably through discussion.
However, Minister Rajitha Senaratna has already sent a letter of demand to Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera demanding Rs. 1 million for defamation. A few months ago, Minister Rishad Bathiudeen too filed legal action against the General Secretary of the Buddhist organization.
