Former Sri Lankan coach Chandika Hathurusinghe is to officially take over the Sri Lanka cricket team as its new head coach this week. 

Sri Lanka Cricket authorities said Hathurusinghe would sign his agreement on December 20. 

It is not entirely clear if Hathurusinghe will fly to India immediately after signing the agreement to join the touring Sri Lankan cricket team. 

Hathurusinghe's agreement will be valid till 2019 World Cup, Sri Lanka Cricket sources said.

Hathurusinghe was previously the head coach of the Bangladeshi cricket team. Before his stint in Bangladesh, he functioned as the Assistant Coach of the Sri Lankan cricket team.
