PM Holds Meeting At Temple Trees: Says He Will Continue With Maithri Until 2020: Dubs Results As Wake-Up Call

February 11, 2018

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe held a special meeting with a group of party seniors at the Temple Trees, a short while ago.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister had informed the group that he would work with President Maithripala Sirisena until 2020.

He had also told his party group that the unity government would continue its full term, despite the result of the Local Government election.

The same decision is to be communicated to President Maithripala Sirisena at a one on one meeting between the two at the President's residence, this afternoon.

However, the Prime Minister had informed that the election result was a wake-up call for the UNP and he intended to take some drastic decisions to put the government back on the right track.

He has emphasized the need on expediting action on corruption investigations, economic development and bringing down cost of living.

The party seniors had also expressed the view that the Treasury Bond issue was a major reason for the party's defeat at the Local Government election.
