President Sirisena Yet To Lift Social Media Ban: Digital Infrastructure Ministry Writes Multiple Letters Seeking To Get Ban Lifted

President Maitripala Sirisena is yet to respond to requests made by the Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure Ministry's request to unblock access to Facebook and other social media and messaging platforms. 

Informed government sources said the Ministry had written a few letters to the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission to lift the ban as the country has now returned to normalcy. 

The TRC has responded to the ministry saying it is yet to receive the President's instructions on the matter. 

The TRC is under the direct purview of the President and Secretary to the President Austin Fernando functions as the Chairman of the body. 

The President is currently on a visit to Japan.
